Cross-border acoustic dialogues

Percussionist and vocalist Fardin Abbasi directs sustained chamber initiatives that link Iranian and Kurdish modal heritages with Nordic contemporary instrumentalists across Northern Europe.

Permanent Formations

Two distinct acoustic bodies

Contemporary Chamber

Road Ensemble

Founded in Helsinki to investigate structural intersections between Persian classical dastgah, Kurdish rhythms, and European strings. The ensemble pairs daf and tombak with cello, kantele, and clarinet in tightly scored modal suites.

Regional Lineage

Hawraman Music Group

Dedicated to the preservation and faithful interpretation of sacred Kurdish vocal repertoires and regional rhythmic cadences. Performances center on ceremonial daf polyrhythms, tanbur, and ancient vocal poetry from western Iran.

Nordic Residencies

Modal encounters in Helsinki and Tampere

Since establishing his base in Finland, Abbasi has led interdisciplinary research and performance cycles with Nordic folk players, classical chamber trios, and contemporary dancers. These projects avoid surface fusion, pursuing deep rhythmic symmetry.

Supported by Finnish cultural foundations, these workshops document rhythmic transcription methods and deliver new performance scores for festivals across Scandinavia and the Baltic region.
